The Centre is a website for Aucklanders to discover the huge range of events, activities and programmes offered through Auckland Council’s regional network of art facilities, community centres and venues for hire.

If you are an individual or organisation providing a public event, activity or programme, either in person or online, at any of Auckland Council's arts facilities, community centres or venues for hire, then you can promote your event by listing it on thecentre.co.nz for free.

Go to the List it page on this website and create an account with your email and a password, then get started creating your listing.

Enter your information following the prompts. When you are happy with your listing, you can review it in preview mode, then submit your listing for approval.  If you need a bit more time, you have the option to save your listing as a draft to edit later, you’ll simply need to log into your account with your email and password.

The approval process can take up to 48 hours, then, you will receive an email that your listing has been approved or suggestions for areas that still need work. If your listing has been approved and published, you can still edit it, but it will need to be resubmitted for approval.

If you receive an email that your listing needs work before it can be approved, this is because there is something about your listing that doesn’t meet with our website standards. You can find your listing in the ‘NEEDS WORK’ tab in your account, where you can continue to edit it. For help on getting your listing approved, see our step by step Guide to Listing on The Centre. 

• Book and confirm an Auckland Council venue before you list your event. To find and book a venue, please visit Community Venues for Hire on the Auckland Council website. You can also browse through our portfolio of venues on the Our Centres page of this website. ​​​​​​​

• A title and short blurb. Give your event, activity or programme a snappy title (150 characters max) and a brief description (240 characters max) summing up what participants will do or experience.

• A short blurb about yourself or your organisation (240 characters max) to help customers understand why you are a great choice to provide this event, activity or programme.

• Contact phone number or email address you will need to provide one of these.

• A website and social media. If you or your organisation have these, you can link them to your listing.

• A payment and/or registration process. If your event, activity or programme is paid or requires registration, then you have the option to link to a website (this might be different from your personal website) where people can pay, get tickets or sign up e.g eventfinda.  

• A photo that positively portrays your event, activity, or programme and will appeal to potential customers. Your photo will need to be a jpeg or png file, no bigger than 2MB, and suited for a landscape layout. If you do not have such a photo, please select one from our photo library or from these sites, which have royalty free photos: pexels.com, pixabay.com.  To keep the website uniform, listings with poor photos, such as images which have text, are pixelated, don’t suit the layout or don’t relate to activity, will not be approved.

Please be aware that The Centre website only lists your event and does not manage registration or payment. By providing your information, your customers will be able to contact you directly about your activity or be directed to where they can register or buy tickets, such as on your personal website, social media page or your preferred ticketing agency. 

Registration, payment, class cancellation and other updates are the sole responsibility of the activity provider to communicate and manage directly with your participants. ​​​​​​​

Go to the What’s on page. You can select the mood (or theme) that you are interested in. You can also tailor your search by selecting key words, date range, an area, a centre, and if the activity is free. Your search results will appear below the search bar for you to browse through. If you want to save your favourite activities, click on the heart in the top right corner of each listing. This will save the listing to the Favourites page, where you can review your shortlist.

If you find an activity, programme or event that interests you, there are details on how to attend included in each listing. You will find contact information for each activity provider on their listing. Please contact them directly for all registration, payment, cancellation and other activity updates. Regretfully, The Centre website cannot help you with these details.

Auckland Council has a network of over 200 arts facilities, community centres and venues for hire that enable Aucklanders to run events, activities and programmes for their local community, with the intention of promoting participation, inclusion and connection. Auckland Council has a range of affordable venues, including theatres, recording studios and workshop spaces to cover all your needs. Partner with us to provide either a new or existing event, activity or programme at one of our centres. Many of our staffed arts and community centres support individuals or groups wishing to share their skills or collaborate with our team, to provide events, activities and programmes specially developed to meet the needs of the local community.
